
Baseball Drops Hard Fought Battle At No. 21 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - North Florida Baseball tallied nine runs on nine hits without committing an error in the field, but ultimately fell to No. 21 Florida State, 14-9, at Dick Howser Stadium on Wednesday.
Junior infielder Mathew Farner got the game started in a big way for North Florida. Farner belted his fifth home run of the season with a leadoff shot to left-center field in the top of the first inning to secure North Florida a 1-0 lead. Farner finished the game 2-4 with three RBI, two runs, two walks and one home run.
Redshirt junior utility player Jackson Toberman tallied his first of four RBI in the game amid the top of the third inning. Toberman worked a walk with the bases loaded to cut Florida State's advantage to 6-2.
Farner plated the first run of the sixth inning for North Florida with a bases-loaded walk.Â
Toberman capped off North Florida's four-run sixth frame with a bases-clearing three-RBI double to the right-center field gap. His double with the bases loaded shrunk Florida State's lead to just 8-6 in the top of the sixth inning.
The redshirt junior, Toberman, crossed home in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch. Sophomore utility player Seth Alford drove in a run for North Florida in the ninth frame with an RBI single to left, cutting the margin to 14-8. Farner plated the final run of the game for North Florida with a bases-loaded walk.
Toberman finished the game 1-3 with four RBI, one run and one walk. Alford tallied a 2-3 outing with two RBI and one run.
Florida State scored six runs in the second inning, two in the fourth, three in the sixth and three in the eighth frame. North Florida fought back with its four-run sixth inning, but it wasn't enough to overcome the eventual final margin.
