JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's track and field goes back-to-back weeks with a pair of student-athletes earning both Track and Field Performer of the Week from the Atlantic Sun Conference, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior Katerina Natsiopoulou and freshman Nataly Walters garnered their first-ever ASUN awards by their incredible performances in multiple events at the ACSEC Invitational this past weekend in Gainesville, Fla.
Natsiopoulou was awarded ASUN Indoor Track Performer of the Week after placing as the runner-up in the 600m at 1:31.88, as well as first overall as a part of the DMR team clocking 12:12.45.
"Kat [Natsiopoulou] is very driven and talented, which is a great mix," stated Jeff Pigg, Director of Cross Country / Track and Field. "She is off to a great start here at UNF."
Walters earned ASUN Indoor Field Performer of the Week after breaking a 14-year school record twice for a runner-up finish in the triple jump at 12.08m. She also put together a top-three finish in the long jump at 5.68m to capsulate a successful weekend in just her second collegiate appearance.
"Nataly [Walters] having success is no surprise after such a storm high school career," Pigg continued. "It is great to see her adapting to college and off to such a great start."
After UNF earned its first-ever ASUN Field Performer of the Week for indoor season last week, Walters added another one to the docket for the Ospreys. It's the first time since February 2018 that a pair of weekly awards have been won in the same month for UNF, as well as only the third time in D-I program history reaching four or more conference weekly honors in a season across both indoor and outdoor.
The duo will return this next weekend back in Gainesville, Fla., for the Visit Gainesville Indoor Classic on Feb. 6 at Alachua County Sports & Events Center.
