
Oriol's Game-Winner Propels Men's Basketball Past Eastern Kentucky, 87-85

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -Â Senior guard Kamrin Oriol posted a career-high 32 points and drained a game-winning shot to propel North Florida Men's Basketball past Eastern Kentucky, 87-85, at UNF Arena on Thursday.
Oriol finished with the career-high point total on 12-for-19 from the field, 3-for-6 from three and 5-for-5 from the free-throw line, in addition to three rebounds and three assists in 38 minutes. He now has scored 20 or more points in four of the last five games and 10 total games this season.
Freshman forward BJ Plummer added a career-high 20 points on 8-13 from the field and 2-5 from three, in addition to three rebounds in 32 minutes. Sophomore guard Kent Jackson rounded out the Ospreys'Â double-digit scorers with 16 points, in addition to four rebounds and two steals in 34 minutes.
Oriol scored six of the Ospreys' first 10 points. Graduate student guard/forward Dalton Gayman drew a foul heading into the initial first-half media timeout and knocked down a pair of free throws out of the break to secure a 12-11 lead for UNF.
Tied at 16, Dyachok scored five straight points to push the margin to 21-16 for North Florida. The Ospreys led 23-19 at the under-eight media timeout in the first half.
UNF led by one at the under-four media timeout with 3:41 minutes left before the half. Oriol led all UNF players with 12 points on 4-for-5 from the field through the first 20 minutes of play.
Plummer scored eight of his 11 first-half points in the final 3:08 minutes of the half. EKU led by three at the half after it featured eight ties and nine lead changes.
Oriol continued his strong start with eight of the first 13 points in the second half for UNF to surpass the 20-point mark. The Ospreys went on a 21-8 run over just under five minutes of action to open a 64-55 lead at the 13:10 minute mark of the second half.
Tied at 72, Jackson drained his fourth three-pointer of the night to retake the lead for the Ospreys. With the game once again tied at 85, Oriol buried a clutch game-winning mid-range jumper to put UNF ahead bringing the score to its final margin.
North Florida opened the largest lead of the game at nine at the 13:30-minute mark of the second half. The Ospreys out-rebounded Eastern Kentucky 38-34 and totaled 13 assists.
In a game that featured 13 ties and 13 lead changes, North Florida led for 27 minutes in the game. The Ospreys outscored their visitors 17-8 in fast-break points.
North Florida hosts Bellarmine on Saturday, Jan. 24, with tip-off set for 11 a.m. ET at UNF Arena.
