
Oriol Scores 29, Men's Basketball Falls To Queens

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior guard Kamrin Oriol notched his ASUN career high for the second-straight game, but North Florida Men's Basketball ultimately fell to Queens (NC), 89-82, at UNF Arena on Saturday.
Oriol turned in 29 points on 12-21 from the field, in addition to four assists and three rebounds in 39 minutes. It marked the second-straight and eighth game this season with 20 or more points for Oriol. Â
Sophomore guard Kent Jackson added 16 points, his 11th game with 10 or more points this season, in 33 minutes. Freshman guard/forward Trey Cady turned in 11 points on 4-7 from the field in 12 minutes off the bench. Â
The margin was tied at 10-10 at the initial first-half media timeout at the 13:33 minute mark. A three from graduate student guard/forward Dalton Gayman and a pair of free throws from Cady pushed the lead to 15-10 for North Florida out of the timeout.Â
Consecutive scores from Jackson secured a 22-16 lead for North Florida at the under-eight minute media timeout in the first half. Jackson hit back-to-back threes to give North Florida a 33-25 lead at the 3:58 minute mark of the first half. Queens ended the first half on a 10-2 run to lead 40-36 at the break. North Florida scored on its initial two possession out of the halftime break to cut the margin to one score at 41-40. Â
Queens led 55-50 at the under-12 minute media timeout of the second half. Trailing 70-63, North Florida cut the margin back to one score at 70-68 on an Oriol three before a steal and fastbreak finish from Gayman with just over five minutes remaining in the second half.
Queens responded with five unanswered points to put its advantage to 75-68 with 4:08 minutes left in the second half. Jackson and freshman guard/forward BJ Plummer buried back-to-back three-pointers with under three minutes left in regulation, though Queens converted at the charity stripe down the stretch to bring the score to its final margin.
The game featured six lead changes and two ties.Â
