MADISON, Wis. – North Florida men's soccer opened its 2025 season with a decisive 1-0 win over Wisconsin at McClimon Soccer Complex on Thursday night.
"This was a great team result tonight on the road," head coach Jamie Davies said. "We were brave on the ball and had to suffer at times in the second half against a good Wisconsin team. We are very proud of this group tonight and now we shift our focus to Marquette on Sunday."
It marked the first win over a Power Four opponent under Davies and the first win over a Power Four opponent for North Florida since it defeated N.C. State, 3-2, on Sept. 4, 2016.
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Luciano Natoli posted four saves, three of which came in the second half, and his fifth-career clean sheet in goal for North Florida. It also marked the fifth shutout for North Florida under Davies.
North Florida commanded an initial lead off the back heel of redshirt senior forward Jaxon Reinhardt in the 37th minute. Sophomore midfielder Anton Khelil collected a pass around six yards out and located Reinhardt in the center of the box who tapped it right past the Badger goalkeeper.
It marked the sixth-career goal for Reinhardt and the third-career assist for Khelil.
The backline was stout throughout the initial half for North Florida and limited Wisconsin to a lone shot before the break.
North Florida continued to control the match in the defensive third despite facing 10 shots and 13 corner kicks in the second half. Six Ospreys - Luciano Natoli, Tyler Prebenda, Paul Schacherer, Jaylen Yearwood, Anton Khelil and Brian McManus Jr. - played the full time in the match and 17 Ospreys logged action.
North Florida continues its four-match road stint to open the season when it faces Marquette on Sunday, Aug. 24 at Valley Fields. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. ET and will be aired on ESPN+.
