JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's basketball proudly announces the return of former Osprey Jayla Adams as an assistant coach to the UNF coaching staff, as announced by head coach Erika Lambert on Tuesday afternoon.
"I'm so honored to add Jayla [Adams] to our coaching staff," said Lambert. "When I was hired in 2023, Jayla was the first recruit to say 'yes' to play for me, and now, she'll be the first former player I get to hire. There's nobody more trustworthy than your point guard."
"Jayla did tremendous work for us throughout the 2023-24 season at UNF and really maximized her final year of eligibility. She has a lot of pride in this place and understands the value of what we're building here," Lambert continued. "On the floor, she understands the system, already speaks my language and will have a great rapport with the players. She will work specifically with our point guards. Off the court, Jayla will have her hand in a lot of different things as she learns the day-to-day of college basketball operations. She's going to be great at it!"
Since graduating from UNF in 2024, Adams has worked as a graduate assistant in the UNF Athletic Department, as well as coaching AAU and high school basketball along with officiating on the AAU circuit. She also ran her own basketball training business, where she served as a lead trainer for a youth development non-profit organization.
"I want to thank God and Coach Erika [Lambert] for blessing me with the opportunity to return to UNF. I'm incredibly grateful to be back, this time as a coach," said Adams. "This program shaped a big part of who I am, and now I'm proud to give back, form meaningful connections and continue learning as I help guide the next generation of leaders."
Adams fills out the 2025-26 North Florida women's basketball coaching staff joining Stacey Ungashick Lobdell, Gadiva Hubbard and Chris Dixon under Lambert's leadership. Both Adams and Ungashick Lobdell will start their debut season as coaches for the Ospreys, while Hubbard and Dixon enter their second seasons in Jacksonville.
The Daytona Beach, Fla., native averaged 10.2 points per game starting all 30 games as a sixth-year senior under Lambert during the 2023-24 season. She led the team in minutes played (32.9 MPG) shooting 36.7% (106-for-289) from the field, while going 30.0% (36-for-120) from three-point range on her way to 20 total games scoring double figures.
Adams completed her master's degree in Educational Leadership with a focus on Athletic Administration in 2024 from the University of North Florida.
