JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After a record-breaking spring to garner national attention, Smilla Kolbe has been named ASUN Most Outstanding Women's Track Performer of the Year. She also joins Aidan O'Gorman, Robert Pedroza and Celine D'Anna on the ASUN All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
She becomes the second Osprey in program history to be named with such honors, following in the footsteps of Brianna Frazier in 2012. This also comes off the heels of being named ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year on the women's side last outdoor season, as well as for the past two seasons for indoor track.
"Smilla [Kolbe] is very dedicated and works very hard. That combination with her drive and talent yielded some great races this spring," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "I'm very proud of her and happy to hear she won this award."
This is the second outdoor ASUN All-Academic honor for Kolbe and the fifth total of her career between cross country, indoor and outdoor seasons. D'Anna joined Kolbe as a part of the women's team with back-to-back seasons with outdoor selections.
Kolbe holds a perfect 4.0 GPA pursuing her degree in psychology all while setting program and national marks in the women's 800m and 1500m races. D'Anna also holds a perfect 4.0 GPA majoring in kinesiology, while breaking the program record on multiple occasions for the 400m hurdles race.
On the men's squad, this is Pedroza's first-career ASUN All-Academic Team recognition for outdoor season, as well as his second overall earning academic honors this past indoor season. O'Gorman continues to raise the bar with his third outdoor selection and eighth overall in his illustrious Osprey career.
O'Gorman holds a 3.8 GPA while majoring in coastal engineering and taking home his first-career First Team All-ASUN title in the men's outdoor 10,000m race. Pedroza holds a 3.8 GPA majoring in sport management putting up stellar times in the men's 800m.
Kolbe, O'Gorman and Pedroza will all represent the Ospreys in regional postseason competition, as they recently qualified for the NCAA East Regional First Round set for May 28-31 at Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
