JACKSONVILLE - Taylor Cook had a fantastic showing in the biggest rivalry weekend of the season to garner her first-career ASUN Pitcher of the Week award, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Cook helped the Ospreys' in their comeback win in the series opener of the River City Rumble against Jacksonville. She came in relief with five innings pitched during her third-career ASUN appearance with five strikeouts, along with only two hits and no runs allowed.
The freshman becomes the fourth unique UNF pitcher to win a weekly award from the conference. She follows in the footsteps of Allison Benning, who has won three different times this season, Kylah Berry, and fellow freshman Macie Hunolt.
"Cookie was great this weekend. She has had moments throughout her freshman season and has battled some inconsistency, but she really put it all together at the right time," said head coach Jeff Conrad. "She came in to a tough spot in a huge rivalry game and gave us a great chance to win."
With the ninth conference weekly award of the year, UNF has the most ASUN awards in a single season since they joined the conference in 2005-06. The Ospreys have brought in six pitching honors and there player honors from the ASUN this season.
Cook looks to keep momentum on her side during the Ospreys' senior day weekend series against Queens from Apr. 26-27 at UNF Softball Complex.
