Aidan O'Gorman running warm up

O'Gorman, Kolbe Break Program Records To Start Split-Squad Weekend

4/18/2025 11:00:00 PM

ATLANTA, Ga. & WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Aidan O'Gorman and Smilla Kolbe both smashed North Florida track and field program records once again during day one of another split-squad weekend on Friday afternoon.

O'Gorman took down Noah Perkins' outdoor 5000m program record from 2021 with UNF's first sub-14 minute run of 13:48.34. He finished 11th overall at the Wake Forest Invitational for the 43rd-best D-I time in the NCAA East Region.

Kolbe continues to impress and set new marks on the women's side with a top overall finish in the 1500m race with a time of 4:13.77 at the Georgia Tech Invitational. She debuted in the outdoor 1500m by taking down Lydia van Dijk's time from 2021.

The Ospreys had strong performances from its men's distance runners at the Wake Forest Invitational with Aiden Arnold finishing in the top five of the 1500m race. His time is a personal-best mark that put him among the top 50 times in the D-I East Region.

Ilias El Khattabi and Rey Hernandez were both close to adding two more school records in the 3000mS and 110mH respectively. El Khattabi is among the top 50 in the region as well with hopes of qualifying for the NCAA East First Round.

PIGG'S POINTS

"Smilla [Kolbe] ran a great 1500m race. She is getting stronger and that was a great test for her. Ella [Chandler] and Ana [Markovina] both ran lifetime bests, so it was a good 1500m for them both. Rey [Hernandez] had a nice opener in the 110m. He is continuing to make nice strides this outdoor season. The steeplechase was a good event as well. Ilias [El Khattabi] crushes his race with a strong third-place finish. He is fit and it was great to see a race to prove it to himself. He should be set for regionals with his steeple, as 8:55 made it last year so that is a big deal. Jada [Williams] really competed well, had great water jumps and finished strong. In Raleigh, we had a bit of an off day. Aiden [Arnold] competed well and ran a quality personal-best. Those guys will get back to work and be ready to roll in a month at the ASUN Championship. Aidan [O'Gorman] ran a high-quality 5000m. He is in top shape and was hoping for a little more, but I'm proud of how he competed and what he accomplished."
