JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball handled Jacksonville at their place, 8-2, in the first game of the River City Rumble on Thursday evening.
The Ospreys were consistently pushing the right buttons on offense, as they scored at least one run in each of the first six innings. Allison Benning got the show started with a solo home run in the top of the first and UNF never looked back.
Benning is one home run away from tying the all-time program record for home runs in a career. She has totaled 14 home runs this season, only three shy of breaking her own single-season program record, and 30 in her Osprey career in striking distance of Shannon Glover's mark set last year.
Sixth-year Chloe Culp and freshman Addyson Bruneman teamed up as a rookie-vet combo to each notch three hits against the Dolphins. This was the first three-hit game of Bruneman's career, while Culp joins Kelsey Vogel as the team leaders on the season for three-hit games with three total.
UNF expands its ASUN record with an undefeated 7-0 start to the season after the six-run victory against JU. The Ospreys have won three of their last four against the Dolphins and seven of their last 10 games as well.
