JACKSONVILLE - Junior Laurie Barendse put together a pair of straight-set sweeps against Bellarmine and Presbyterian to clinch her first career ASUN Player of the Week distinction, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Barendse led the Ospreys to its first conference win of the season against Bellarmine with a 6-0, 6-2 singles sweep on the top court, as well as a 6-2 doubles victory with Alisa Lyshko. She returned even stronger with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Presbyterian and a 6-4 doubles win with Anslee Long, all on the top court.
The junior from Pijnacker, Netherlands, has been on a hot streak as of recent taking victories in four of her last six singles matches and six of her last seven doubles matches.
"I am so proud of Laurie [Barendse] for all her hard work and the growth she has had this year," said head coach Catherine Dunagan. "This recognition is a result of her hard work and how much effort she puts in to get better each week on and off the court."
Barendse will get back on the court later this week with a home match against Queens on Friday, Mar. 14, set for 11 a.m., at UNF Tennis Complex.
