JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – No. 19-ranked North Florida beach volleyball opened action at its DUUUVAL Duals with a pair of wins at The Cooper Beach Volleyball Complex on Friday. 
 
North Florida outlasted Mercer, 3-2, in a five-point thriller in its home opener, before it handled Saint Leo, 5-0.  
 
Redshirt sophomore Sophia Notaro and senior Emily Guenter secured a 21-8, 21-12 win at five to take the initial point over Mercer. The Ospreys earned their second point when the junior tandem of Presley Murray and Mackenzie Murphy made swift work in the top slot in straight sets, 21-10, 21-12. 
 
Tied 2-2, the dual came down to the final set at the two spot where senior Andrea Da Silva and senior Taylor Pierce responded to a split to take the three-set thriller, 21-14, 20-22, 15-11. 
 
North Florida swept Saint Leon with straight-set wins at four of the five courts. Sophomore Cameron Humphries and senior Hayden Wooldridge earned a 21-14, 21-12 win in the four spot before Notaro and Guenter won both of their sets, 21-14 at the five line. The dual went into the win column when Madison Espy and Eden Anderson racked up a 21-11, 21-15 win in the third position. The top pair of Murray and Murphy tacked on a 21-15, 21-19 win and the sweep was sealed on a three-set win, 21-15, 14-21, 15-7, by Da Silva and Pierce at two. 
 
Murphy and Murphy have now opened the season with six-straight dual wins at the top position. 
 
North Florida concludes the DUUUVALS Duals when it battles Chattanooga and crosstown rival Jacksonville on Saturday.
