JACKSONVILLE - Senior Allison Benning cumulated one of the best weeks from a single player in program & conference history from the plate and in the circle to take home both ASUN Player & Pitcher of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
This is the second and third weekly awards for Benning this season, as well as the fifth and sixth of her career. She now has notched three ASUN Player of the Week honors and three ASUN Pitcher of the Week honors in just over a season with the Ospreys.
The ASUN Preseason Player of the Year reels in the 24th ASUN Player of the Week & 26th ASUN Pitcher of the Week conference honor in program history. Benning notches both awards in the same week for the second time since the awards' inception during the 1999 season, as she did it the first time during the 2024 season as well.
"I think Softball America said it best, what she did this weekend was video game numbers. She's just so dynamic in so many ways. I think the intentional walk HR went viral," said head coach Jeff Conrad. "The numbers speak for themselves, but the great thing about Benny was as everyone is jumping on her to celebrate perfection, she just wanted to find all the defensive players who made great plays to make it all possible. A great player, but even better kid."
The senior batted .700 (7-for-10) with three home runs, eight RBI and 11 intentional walks from the plate at the Make It Happen Games. She also pitched a 2-0 record with 15 strikeouts, no runs allowed and only one hit allowed, in which was highlighted by a perfect-game performance in the weekend finale against Siena.
Benning looks to keep the host streak going with four games this upcoming weekend at the Charge On Classic hosted by UCF from Feb. 27-28.
