JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the second time this season, North Florida Women's Basketball freshman forward Dezuray McGill earned ASUN Freshman of the Week honors on Monday.
"Dezuray [McGill] is learning and growing every day," Head Coach Erika Lambert. "No assignment is too big or too small for her. Despite her rookie status, she's a fierce competitor who elevates the play of all her teammates. I was happy to see Dezuray put up strong numbers this week, and I believe she is in a great position, as we get ready to move into ASUN play."
McGill posted 19 points on 64.3 percent from the field and 67 percent from three, in addition to 2.5 rebounds in 22.0 minutes per game in the final two non-conference games last week for North Florida.
McGill propelled North Florida to a win over Coastal Georgia on Dec. 16 with a career-high 30 points on 15-21 from the field with four rebounds, two assists and two steals in 25 minutes. The 30 points from McGill marked the second-most by a freshman under Lambert, and the most points for North Florida since Alexa Washington totaled 31 points against Piedmont on Dec. 13, 2023.
She has posted double-digit scoring outings in four games this season. McGill also contributed eight points on 3-7 from the field and 2-2 from three in 19 minutes at Clemson on Dec. 21.
McGill leads North Florida with 10.5 points per game, 57.5 field-goal percentage and a 63.6 three-point field goal percentage.
North Florida opens ASUN conference action at UNF Arena against Lipscomb on Thursday, Jan. 1, at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
