
Men's Basketball Fall In Second-Half Battle To Southern Miss

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Five Ospreys scored in double figures, but North Florida Men's Basketball fell in a second-half battle to Southern Miss, 92-83, in game one of the Pensacola Invitational at Pensacola Bay Center on Saturday night.Â

Sophomore guard Kent Jackson led all Ospreys with a career-high 21 points on 7-13 from the field and 5-11 from three in 35 minutes. Senior guard Kamrin Oriol added 17 points in 36 minutes for his fifth-straight game with 10 or more points to open the season.Â

Graduate student guard Devin Hines recorded his most points as an Osprey with 13 points on 5-8 from the field in 17 minutes. Graduate student guard/forward Dalton Gayman notched 12 points on 5-6 from the field, in addition to four rebounds and four assists in 27 minutes. Freshman guard/forward BJ Plummer posted his third-straight game with 10 or more points with 10 points on 4-5 from the field and 2-2 from three in 24 minutes.Â

North Florida opened its largest lead of the first half at 44-31 with 3:20 minutes left before the break. The Ospreys led for 16:59 minutes of the first half. North Florida connected on 64.3 percent from the field and 56.3 percent from three to take a 46-35 lead at the end of the first half.Â

Jackson beat the halftime buzzer with a fadeway jumper for a team-high 13 points in the initial 20 minutes. Hines added 10 first-half points.Â

Southern Miss outscored North Florida 57-37 in the second half to reach the eventual final. Oriol turned in 11 of his 17 points in the second half.Â

North Florida will battle Prairie View A&M in game two of the Pensacola Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2:30 p.m. ET.
