Broke Program & Facility Records for 800m, Ranks No. 4 In Nation
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Smilla Kolbe was the focal point of North Florida track and field's second day of competition this weekend, as she broke the program record for the women's 800m at the RADD Sports College Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Kolbe hit a record-breaking mark of 2:03.22 to not only break the program and facility records for the women's 800m, but also rank herself fourth in the nation for the event as well. She has now taken down three different school records this year with the XC 5k, the indoor mile and now the indoor 800m.
Ella Chandler was right behind Kolbe in second overall in the 800m race as well with a time of 2:11.46, while Robert Pedroza turned in the same standing on the men's side at 1:52.19. Camryn Batt and William Owens set personal-best marks to add on to a successful meet day in the 60mH and 60m dash respectively.
"Smilla [Kolbe] is very fit, as we saw last week in the mile. This is a great opener and it's exciting to see how smoothly she ran 2:03. Our goal will continue to be progressing over the next five months to be her very best at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. I'm very proud of how well she ran today.
Robert did a nice job in the 800m as well. It was good for him to get in a quicker race, as he has been focused on XC and the mile. We are going to continue to get him fast with a strong emphasis in the 800m. Will [Owens] had a nice 60m race. He will continue to improve as he gains experience on the indoor track and the new distance. Overall, it was a very strong weekend for our program."
