Junior Picks Up Honorable Mention All-American Honors at NCAA Outdoor Championships
EUGENE, Oreg. - Junior Smilla Kolbe clocked in a time of 2:03.21 out on the West Coast, but unfortunately her stellar season comes to a close after placing 17th overall in the semifinals of the women's 800m race at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday evening.
Kolbe became only the fourth female Osprey to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in program history. She is also the first UNF runner on the women's side to qualify for the championship event in the 800m race.
With her honorable mention selection in the 800m on the national stage, she becomes the first All-American honoree since Eden Meyer for the 10,000m race in 2018. Four of the six competitors that she finished over in the semifinals reigned from Power Five institutions as well.
"Smilla [Kolbe] had a great year. Her race today was another strong performance against the best. She has gained valuable experience, which is an important part of her journey. I'm very proud to coach her and she has made such a positive impact on our program. Her work ethic and dedication sets a good example for our team. We look forward to the 2025 track season."
