Ospreys Advance to ASUN Semifinal Round

OXFORD, Ala. - Shannon Glover broke the tie in the seventh inning with a three-run walk-off bomb down the left field line that pushed No. 2 North Florida softball (34-17, 17-7 ASUN) to an ASUN Championship quarterfinal victory against No. 3 Central Arkansas (25-26-1, 15-7-1 ASUN) on Thursday afternoon.

In the fifth game this week for the conference tournament, Glover was the first player to hit a home run in the 225-foot ballpark. She smashed her seventh homer of the season, while extending her school-record mark to 31 total in her career.

The Ospreys struck first to open the game with back-to-back RBI doubles from Glover and Chloe Culp in the first inning. Arends started the game getting out of an early jam, but Benning took over in the second to limit damage in a 3-2 game.

In the fourth inning, UCA put down a pair of sac-bunts to set up the game-tying score. It remained 3-3 through six innings, as Benning totaled seven strikeouts in her outing.

The bottom of the seventh kicked off for the Ospreys with Hadlee Reichert driving a single through the left side. After Benning was walked for the third time on the day, Glover drove a deep shot down the left field line and wrapped it around the foul pole to secure the 6-3 walk-off victory over the Bears, ending her afternoon with two hits and five RBIs.
