First Osprey in Program History to Receive Honor
OLYMPIA, Wash. - North Florida softball's Allison Benning picks up another postseason accolade earning a utility/pitcher selection to the Division I Softball All-Americans by WAR - Second Team as announced by 6-4-3 Charts on Thursday, May 30.Â
"As I've said before I'll put Benny's stat line up against anyone's" said head coach Jeff Conrad. "I'm biased, I'm her coach and get to see her everyday but is there anyone in the country who can say they hit .347 Â had 16 HR 46 RBI AND won 19 games in the circle? Â She deserves to be recognized as an All-American and kudos to 6-4-3 for doing so".
Benning is the first Osprey in Division I program history to receive an All-American selection. She is one of four non-Power Five players selected to the second-team alongside Maddia Groff, Olivia Lackie and Rachel Roupe.Â
Selections were made based on the Wins Above Replacement (WAR) metric implemented by 643 Charts and Division I Softball. Benning's WAR of 2.83 resulted from the addition of her Offensive Wins Above Replacement (oWAR) and her Defensive Wins Above Replacement (dWAR).Â
The junior concluded her first season as the D-I single-season program record-holder for home runs (16) and slugging percentage (.707) on the batting side and opponent batting average (.185) on the pitching side. She also set top-five marks for RBIs (46) as a batter, along with K/7 (8.06), wins (19) and total strikeouts (200) as a pitcher.
She adds this honor to her many conference awards and recent selection to the NFCA Third Team All-Southeast Region. She was named UNF Female Newcomer of the Year following a historic first season in the Navy and Gray, leading the team to its first 35+ win season since 2014.Â
