Will Enter 11th Season With Ospreys in 2024-25
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - University of North Florida women's swimming head coach Ian Coffey has agreed to a multi-year contract extension through the 2027 season, as announced by Director of Athletics Nick Morrow on Wednesday afternoon.
Coffey receives a three-year extension through June 30, 2027, after finishing up his 10th season as the head coach of the UNF women's swimming program. He has served a critical role in growing the program in the pool and in the classroom since taking over in 2014 as just the second head coach for the institution.
"We are thrilled to have head coach Ian Coffey continue to lead our program. He has done an outstanding job moving our program forward every year with great academic success and record-breaking performances," said Morrow. "Coach Coffey and his team positively represent the UNF community and they are a pleasure to work with and work for. We look forward to working with Coach Coffey and providing him the resources necessary to build a championship program."
Coffey has seen 58 school records broken during his time in Jacksonville. He has also assisted in the development of five Swimmers of the Week winners, one UNF Female Athlete of the Year, as well as the ASUN SAAC Secretary and UNF SAAC President.
"I'm very honored to continue coaching and developing our student-athletes here at UNF," said Coffey. "Thank you to Nick Morrow for his confidence in me and his outstanding support of our program. I look forward to continuing the success of our student-athletes in the pool and the classroom."
The Ospreys have consistently seen success in the classroom under his wing, having achieved College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team status. This past semester the program tallied a 3.66 team grade point average.
Coffey has been an integral part of opening the UNF Aquatic Center on the campus of North Florida, with its first-ever meet at the facility on Sept. 25, 2021. He has also helped usher the program from the CCSA into the Atlantic Sun Conference during the 2023-24 season.
The Pennsylvania native holds degrees from La Salle and Virginia Tech to go with his two decades of collegiate coaching experience. He has made previous coaching stops at Radford, Villanova, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, and as the head coach at Mansfield.
