Second Pitching, Third Overall Weekly Award Earned
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Another award presented itself to Allison Benning this week, as she was selected as the D1Softball National Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.
Benning is the first player in program history to be given national recognition for a weekly award with her record-breaking performance in the circle. She spun 24 strikeouts with a 2-0 record against Kennesaw State, including her share of the D-I program record for single-game strikeouts during the series opener with 16 total.
"A great accomplishment for Benny and our program. She had a tremendous week, but has been pretty consistent in doing that since she arrived here from Oregon," said head coach Jeff Conrad. "As her coach, it's very rewarding to see all of the hard work she puts in be recognized along with the attention it's bringing to our program on the national level."
This award comes in for the junior transfer from Lake Elmo, Minn., less than 24 hours after being the first player since 1999 to win ASUN Player & Pitcher of the Week at the same time. This was the first time she won the conference award for player, while picking up the pitcher honor for a second time this season.
