Will Maintain Collegiate Eligibility Throughout Process
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida junior guard Chaz Lanier has announced his intention to declare as an early entrant for the 2024 NBA Draft, while maintaining his final year of collegiate eligibility on Saturday afternoon.
"Chaz Lanier entering his name in the 2024 NBA Draft as an early entrant is absolutely a dream come true for a young man that has personified the saying, 'Work brings profit and mere talk leads to poverty,'" said head coach Matthew Driscoll on the junior's declaration. "Chaz has always believed in himself, even back in ninth grade when he stood 5-6. No one could ever measure his heart, which remained steadfast in continuing to hone on his skill set and body. He knew that one day, he would be prepared and his opportunity would evolve, which it did and he capitalized on it this season. He has done unprecedented things on the court that will resonate daily during his workouts for the NBA."
Lanier broke out this season with the Ospreys as a First Team All-ASUN selection, leading the conference in points per game in ASUN games with 24.5 PPG. He totaled 629 points during the 2023-24 season to become only the second UNF player in Division I program history to surpass the 600-point mark.
The Nashville, Tenn., native was one of two players from this season to win ASUN Player of the Week on three different occasions. He surpassed 20+ points 15 different times, including 11 times in ASUN games, while also hitting over 30+ points in four games, including a career-high 35 points against North Alabama.
The junior ranked fifth in the nation in threes made with 106 total and ninth in three-point percentage at 44.0%, while also being top 20 for made field goals at 214 total and points at 629 total. He added on to his season accomplishments by leading the ASUN in made threes with 56 total, highest free-throw percentage at 90.5% and the most minutes played with 36.9 MPG, during conference games.
"Chaz was arguably the most efficient player in the country throughout the year and became the only ASUN player in history to have 50-40-90 percentages while making over 100 field goals made and 50 three-pointers made during the 2024 ASUN regular season," continued Driscoll. "Like he has done during his entire four years with us, Chaz will strive for perfection, while never losing that most special quality he possess, which is his servants heart and willingness to be the difference in someone's life."
The 2024 NBA Draft will take place from Jun. 26-27, 2024, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The early entry entrant withdrawal deadline will take place 10 days before the draft on Sunday, June 16 at 5 p.m.
