JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's swimming's Victoria Torres earned her first-ever ASUN Swimmer of the Week honor as announced by the league office Wednesday, Oct. 9.Â
"Victoria had an excellent meet this past week" head coach Ian Coffey said. "Four first-places is impressive in a meet. Each race she swam with a plan, executed the plan, and got the results she wanted. A very well deserved honor by the conference".
Torres becomes the first Osprey to receive this weekly honor since swimming and diving were announced as ASUN sponsored sports prior to the start of the 2023-2024 season. The last time a UNF swimmer won a weekly award was back when Faith Mutschler won CCSA Swimmer of the Week on Sept. 27, 2022.Â
The Pembroke Pines, Fla. native tallied four first-place finishes in North Florida's 132-130 win over West Florida, Oct. 4. She swept both breaststroke races, finishing first in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke with times of 1:05.35 and 2:24.43, respectively.Â
She was also part of the group that won the 400-yard medley relay to kick off the meet, finishing with a combined time of 3:54.94 alongside teammates Katie Carlos, Kayla Daley and Marcia Shaw.Â
Torres contributed to 40 of the Ospreys 132 points against West Florida, helping secure another first-place finish in the final race of the day that came down to the wire. Alongside teammates Ashley Kephart, Amelia Hildebrand and Marcia Shaw, the group won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:31.66 to secure the win over the Argonauts.Â
North Florida hits the road for the first time this season, taking part in the annual FSU Quad Meet, facing Florida State, Florida Southern and West Florida Friday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m.
