Men's Basketball Hosts 16 Games in 2023-24
8/15/2023 10:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's basketball is excited to announce its full 2023-24 schedule featuring 16 home games, a regular season multi-team tournament (MTE) at the UNF Arena and five games against Power Five teams.
UNF will play half of its home games against non-conference foes, while going to P5 opponents LSU, Iowa, Florida State, Georgia and Miami. After traveling all the way to the Pacific Time Zone in each of the last two seasons to open the better part of the first weeks of the season, this year features a home heavy first two weeks. The Ospreys play four of their first six games at home, with two road games in the Palmetto State at Charleston Southern and SC State.Â
"Over the years we have been working hard towards this truly great accomplishment of lining up a schedule with 16 regular season home games, the most during our staff's era at UNF," head coach Matthew Driscoll said. "We're excited coming off our foreign tour to Costa Rica as we've seen the meshing of our seven newcomers and benefited from the consistency of being on the CSI Companies Court in the summer. We are playing five Power 5 opponents as usual, but the opportunity to host our own MTE consisting of three games at home really excites our program. The ASUN is once again very deep, much like last year, with many schools revamping their rosters through the transfer portal to create another grueling battle night in and night out."

Notables
First Week of 2023
North Florida opens the season against Coastal Georgia Nov. 6, the first time North Florida has begun the year at home since 2012. It's also just the second time UNF has taken on Coastal Georgia, with the only other meeting being Dec. 12, 2015 in North Florida's 117-71 win. That victory marked UNF's largest scoring output in program history.Â
North Florida completes the first week of the season with two road games in South Carolina, beginning with Charleston Southern Nov. 9 and finishing at SC State Nov. 13. UNF and Charleston Southern last played in 2018 when the Ospreys swept a home and home with the Buccaneers. North Florida completes a home-and-home with SC State after UNF hosted the Bulldogs in the first-ever game on the CSI Companies Court last year.
MTE at the UNF Arena, Thanksgiving Road Trip
The Ospreys play a stretch of three games in three days when Presbyterian, Northwestern State and Maine come to the UNF Arena for the Ospreys' inaugural multi-team event (MTE) Nov. 16-18. After concluding November's home games, North Florida plays its only two non-conference games in the central time zone Nov. 24 at LSU and Nov. 29 at Iowa.Â
UNF has played some stalwarts on both of those teams in years past, including Luka Garza at Iowa in 2019 and Ben Simmons in Baton Rouge during a 108-119 high-scoring affair loss in 2015.
Longest Home Stand of the Year
Travel is favorable to the Ospreys in December, with UNF beginning the month with the year's longest home stand, a four-game stint in The Nest from Dec. 2-16. North Florida plays its fourth game in five years against High Point Dec. 2 before welcoming crosstown opponent, Edward Waters, Dec. 5.Â
UNF won a barnburner against Georgia Southern in 2019 and this year the Ospreys host the Eagles again Dec. 9. A Dec. 16 meeting against another Jacksonville team in Trinity Baptist rounds out UNF's home non-conference affairs.Â
P5 Swing to Close 2023
North Florida concludes 2023 with its first of two stretches of three-straight road games on the season Dec. 19-29. The non-conference finale road trip begins at Florida State Dec. 19 and continues at Georgia Dec. 22 in the first-ever meeting between North Florida and Georgia on the men's side. The Ospreys finish at 2022-23 Final Four team Miami Dec. 29.
ASUN Slate - First Half
The entire first half of the 16-game ASUN schedule will be played in January as UNF plays four at home and four on the road during the year's first month. January opens at Stetson Jan. 4, the second time in as many seasons North Florida has played its first ASUN road game in DeLand. Two days later North Florida goes to rival FGCU.Â
Jan. 13 sees North Florida host its half of the River City Rumble with JU. UNF finishes a conference-long home stand against reigning ASUN champion Kennesaw State Jan. 18 and Queens Jan. 20.Â
The Ospreys play two games in three days in the Bluegrass State Jan. 25-27 against Bellarmine and Eastern Kentucky. The month is wrapped up at home Jan. 31 against Lipscomb.Â
ASUN Slate - Second Half
North Florida plays just its third game outside the eastern time zone at Austin Peay Feb. 3. UNF returns for two home games in less than 48 hours against UNA and Central Arkansas Feb. 8-10.
UNF leaves The Nest for the final time in the regular season beginning Feb. 14 at Queens and Friday Feb. 16 at KSU. After a week off, UNF goes to JU for the second half of the River City Rumble and the final road game of league play Feb. 23.Â
The regular season closes against in-state teams FGCU and Stetson Feb. 28 and Mar. 1 respectively.Â
ASUN Championship play will be held at host sides based on seeding from March 4-10.
