Also Earned Fourth-Career All-Academic Team Selection
ATLANTA - Aidan O'Gorman racked up the awards this indoor season and today he added ASUN's Most Outstanding Men's Indoor Track Athlete to list as made public by the conference office on Thursday afternoon. He also was selected as one of the 12 athletes to make the ASUN All-Academic team, doing so for the first time with indoor and the fourth time overall.
O'Gorman put up a spectacular performance in the ASUN Indoor Championships last month with a pair of wins in both the 3000m and 5000m races. After placing second in last season's 3000m, he pushed through with a time of 8:06.52 to break the ASUN indoor meet record.
The New Smyrna Beach, Fla. native, also broke the ASUN meet record in the 5000m race with a time of 14:02.90. It was his first 5000m race of the season and the first time competing in the ASUN's indoor 5000m competition.
"Aidan [O'Gorman] works extremely hard and does all the right stuff the other 22 hours that he is not at practice, said head coach Jeff Pigg. "He is a super high character guy and a great student as well. It is thrilling to see him find so much success knowing his level of commitment. He is a great ambassador for UNF."
The senior makes it two years in a row that an Osprey distance runner has been selected for the conference's most outstanding male track athlete, as Nathan Jubran won both the 3000m and 5000m races as well in last season's indoor meet. He is also the third Osprey in the past five ASUN Indoor Championship meets UNF has competed in that has been tabbed for the award as well.
O'Gorman as one of the best distance runners in the ASUN throughout the whole season, as he broke the eight-minute barrier in the 3000m at the D.H. Valentine Invitational with a program-record time of 7:55.50. He now holds UNF records for the 8k in cross country, the 3000m in indoor and the 10,000m in outdoor.
He will return to the track for this upcoming outdoor season, as he will look to add on to his accolades starting with the River City Relays from Mar. 16-17 at Visit Jax Track in Hodges Stadium.
