Second-Consecutive Year on the Big League Roster to Begin the Season
BALTIMORE, Md. - For the second-consecutive season, former North Florida baseball right-handed pitcher Bryan Baker made the Baltimore Orioles Opening Day 28-man roster as made public by the Major League Baseball organization Thursday, March 30.Â
Baker is one of nine righties to make the Orioles' 2023 Opening Day roster. He cemented himself into the Baltimore bullpen last year, going 4-3 with a 3.49 ERA across 66 games. He had nine holds, one save and 76 punchouts in 69.2 innings of work for the MLB squad.Â
The hurler made his MLB debut with the Toronto Blue Jays Sept. 5, 2021, earning the claim as the first UNF baseball player from the program's DI era to make the MLB. Baker was selected in the 11th round of the 2016 MLB June Draft by the Colorado Rockies. He was traded to the Blue Jays organization before climbing the minor league ranks. He was claimed off waivers by the Orioles in November of 2021.Â
In three seasons at North Florida, Baker went 14-10 with a 3.67 ERA, working primarily as a hard-throwing starter.
Baltimore opens the year against the Red Sox at 2:10 p.m.
