Scored 4-Under 67 In Second Round To Make Cut
PALM HARBOR, Fla. - Nick Gabrelcik completed his PGA Tour debut weekend as an amateur player at the Valspar Championship on Sunday afternoon after being one of two collegiate players to receive a sponsor's exemption.
From playing his practice round with back-to-back defending champion Sam Burns to playing all four rounds with his brother as his caddie, the Osprey junior had a weekend to remember at a course in which he grew up playing on.
Â
Gabrelcik grew up in Trinity, Fla., which is only 20 minutes away from where the Valspar Championship is played at Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead Course. He grew up around the tournament as a former standard bearer and returned home to make his PGA debut.
The back-to-back ASUN Golfer of the Year opened the tournament at 4-over 75, but found his footing the following day carding 4-under 67 to be one of 72 players in the field of 144 to make the cut. He scored at 3-over 74 and 5-over 76 in the final two rounds to complete his weekend at 8-over 292.
Before his PGA debut, Gabrelcik was on a tear in the collegiate ranks with seven top-five finishes in eight tournaments played, including a medalist crown at the Isleworth Collegiate and a team title at the Quail Valley Collegiate. In his career, he has program records for individual tournament wins (7), top-five finishes (18) and most rounds in the 60s (42).
Gabrelcik will return with the Osprey team to play at the Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt from Apr 10-12 in Franklin, Tenn.
