
Track & Field: Ospreys Continue Strong Showing on Day Two at Celebration Pointe

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The sprinters and runners for North Florida track and field achieved another day of success in multiple events at the Celebration Pointe Indoor Classic on Friday afternoon.
Ryan Thomas headlined the Ospreys' day with a career-best performance in the 60m hurdles event. The graduate student earned an outstanding personal-best time in the men's 60m hurdles prelim, scratching four seconds off his best time from the 2022 season.
Thomas also placed first for the prelims in his respective heat, cementing the first win for the North Florida men on the weekend. The Leesburg Va., native placed second for the overall prelims and earned a second-place title in the 60m finals.
FINISH LINE
Men
- Thomas set a lifetime mark of 8.44 in the 60m hurdle prelim.
- He also placed first in his respective heat and second overall in the prelim.
- Jordan Travieso kept a steady pace in the men's 400m, clocking in at sixth overall.
- Travieso ran well placing second in his respective heat.
Women
- Celine D'Anna maintained great strides and pace in the 400m dash, as she earned first in her heat for the Ospreys.
- D'Anna qualified for the 60m hurdles finals, after placing top eight in the prelims.
- Rafaela Marchini earned a spot in the top 10 for women's long jump.
- Laci Watford placed third in the fifth heat of women's 1-mile run.
- Watford set a lifetime mark of 5:37.29 in the event.
- Lauren Jones kept a steady pace behind Watford placing sixth in the same heat of the women's mile.
- Jones set a new lifetime mark as well at 5:52.14 in the mile.
COACH'S THOUGHTS
"Today started out with Rafaela [Marchini] and Micaela [Brasquet] in long jump and pole vault. Mica in the pole vault cleared three bars today and keeps moving up her indoor best. Rafaela also improved her indoor best with a 4.99m jump. They both continue to improve weekly.Ryan [Thomas] and Celine [D'Anna] put in solid performances in the 60m hurdle prelim with both making it to the finals.
Jordan [Travieso], Ryan, and Celine had good 400m runs today with all three getting personal bests. In the women's mile today, Laci [Watford] and Lauren [Jones] continued to improve. The group will recover this weekend and get after it again on Monday preparing for the indoor conference meet."

The sprinters and jumpers for the Ospreys will make their fourth and final trip to Gainesville, Fla., from Thursday, Feb. 9-10, to compete in the Florida University Invitational hosted at the Alachua County Sports Complex.
