Host Bob Hayes Invitational Mar. 15-16, East Coast Relays Apr. 26-27
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida track and field team released its 2024 indoor and outdoor schedules as announced by head coach Jeff Pigg on Tuesday morning. The Ospreys are set to host a pair of outdoor meets at the Visit Jax Track in Hodges Stadium with the Bob Hayes Invitational taking place from Mar. 15-16, followed by the East Coast Relays from Apr. 26-27.
North Florida will commence the 2024 track and field season on Friday, Jan. 19, at the RADD Sports College Invitational hosted in Gainesville, Fla. The Alachua County Sports and Events Center is also set to host the Celebration Pointe Indoor Classic on Friday, Feb 2, as well as the Florida University Invitational on Thursday, Feb. 8.
The ASUN Indoor Championships will wrap up the indoor season for UNFÂ set from Feb. 23-24 with a fourth consecutive meet in Gainesville, Fla. The Ospreys will look to top its historic results from last year's season after breaking multiple records and having a plethora of top-three finishers at the conference meet.
"The new indoor facility in Gainesville is such a blessing for us," said Pigg. "It is a top-notch facility with a fast track and we miss less class. Scott Peters does a great job hosting meets there as well, so it is a perfect fit."
Early Season & Road Trips
UNF will make the first strides on its home course from Mar. 15-16 at the Bob Hayes Invitational to open the outdoor season. The Ospreys will compete in the two-day meet before making its way back to Gainesville, Fla., for the Florida Relays hosted by Florida from Mar. 29-30.
Shortly after, the team will return to UF to compete in the two-day Tom Jones Memorial from Apr. 12-13, followed by another annual competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational from Apr. 19-20 to close out its road slate. They will then take a six-day hiatus before concluding with its final home meet of the regular season.
Home Meets & Postseason
The Ospreys will organize its second home meet of the year, as they host the regular season outdoor finale for the East Coast Relays from Apr. 26-27 at Visit Jax Track. For more information about the River City Relays and East Coast Relays and how to enter the meet, visit the "Home Meets" link on the website for both the men's and women's track and field home pages.
"We have so many great opportunities here in Florida. Our home meets are good and, with the Florida Relays and Tom Jones Memorial, there are great races almost every weekend," continued Pigg. "Our ASUN meet will be away from UNF for the first time, so we will wrap up with a week-long trip to Central Arkansas followed by NCAAÂ Regionals at the University of Kentucky. It is going to be a great year."
This is the first time in 15 years that North Florida will not host the ASUN Outdoor Championships. Instead, the meet will take place in Conway, Ark., hosted by Central Arkansas from May 9-11. The Ospreys that qualify further into the postseason will then journey to Lexington, Ky., for the NCAA Outdoor East Preliminary Round from May 22-25, and will end with the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oreg., from Jun. 5-8, to finish out the 2024 season.
