ASUN All-Conference Osprey Enters Independent Ball
BOISE, Idaho - North Florida baseball alumni Abraham Sequera signed with the Boise Hawks of the Pioneer League, an Independent League ball club in Boise, Idaho.
The switch-hitting infielder posted a multi-hit game in his first contest with the Boise Hawks. The Hawks were formerly a Class A Short Season team from 1987-2020 before transitioning to the Independent level after the reduction of the number of minor league teams during 2020.Â
Sequera is the second Osprey to join the indy ball ranks in as many years after his 2021 teammate, Alex Kachler, signed with the New Jersey Jackals last summer.Â
While at North Florida, Sequera finished his career with strong numbers thanks to an impressive conclusion to his five-year stint in Jacksonville. The Caracas, Venezuela, native appeared in 166 games, making 158 starts while collecting 98 runs, 162 hits, 28 doubles, five triples, 20 home runs, 99 RBI, 63 walks and a .426 slugging percentage.Â
2022 was his biggest season as he ended up on the All-ASUN Second Team thanks to a team-best 11 home runs and 53 RBI. Sequera hit .307 for the year, playing primarily at third base.Â
Sequera ranks ninth in UNF's DI history for career home runs, a mark helped after homering in his final at-bat as an Osprey. His final home series at North Florida saw him go 6-for-15 with five runs, seven RBI, one double, four home runs and a walk-off double against FGCU. He also made his first-ever appearance at catcher, filling in during extra innings.Â
