Two Ospreys Qualify for Finals Race on First Day of ASUN Outdoor Championship

Doyle, Thomas & O'Gorman All Run Top-Five Times

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The North Florida track and field teams went toe-to-toe against the conference's best on the first day of the ASUN Outdoor Championship at Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium on Thursday, May 12.

Timothy Doyle and Ryan Thomas highlighted the evening for the Ospreys, as they both qualified for the finals of their respective races. Doyle finished inside the top-five overall in the 1500m, while Thomas placed top-two in his heat to make the finals for the 400m hurdles.

Aidan O'Gorman also placed fourth in his race for the men's 10,000m, while Celine D'Anna notched a personal-best time in the 400m hurdles on the women's side.


IN THE FIELD

- Tariq Lajoie placed in fifth for the men's high jump after clearing a mark of 1.99m on his second try, while also hitting the mark of 1.94m on his first attempt.


ON THE TRACK

Men's Races
  • Doyle put together a solid race for the Ospreys with a time of 3:46.84 in the 1500m race at fifth overall.
  • He will qualify for the finals race in the 1500m after finishing in the top-three for his heat.
  • Aiden Arnold also raced in the 1500m recording a time 3:52.42 that gave him 13th overall.
  • O'Gorman ran well in the 10,000m to find himself place fourth overall in the race.
  • Seth Martinez also earned points for the Ospreys in the 10,000m after notching 30:34.69 in his debut ASUN Outdoor Championship.
  • Justin Tackling posted a sub-32 minute time to finish 12th, while Thomas Weiler and John McKenzie rounded out the group of six Osprey runners in the 10,000m.
  • Thomas qualified for 400mH finals race after he turned in a time of 55.57 that was second-best in his heat and fourth overall.

Women's Races
  • Raquel Lespasio was a ninth-place finisher in the 10,000m race after she recorded a time of 38:54.60.
  • This was her second 10,000m race of the season, as her only other race of that type was at the Flames Invitational.
  • D'Anna was inside the top 10 of the 400mH race, while also earning a personal-best time of 1:04.55.

The UNF track and field teams will continue onto their second day of competition at the ASUN Outdoor Championships on Friday afternoon starting at 4 pm. Events for the Ospreys include the high jump, 400m, 800m, and 3000m steeplechase.
