Ospreys Righty Tabbed to 28-Man Roster at Big League Level
BALTIMORE, Md. - Former North Florida baseball right-handed pitcher Bryan Baker was tabbed to the Baltimore Orioles' 2022 Opening Day 28-man roster as announced by the Major League Baseball club Thursday, April 7.
Baker is one of nine right-handed pitchers to make the opening day big league squad. The righty made his big league debut with the Toronto Blue Jays Sept. 5, 2021 of last season, becoming the first UNF baseball player from the program's DI era to make the MLB.
The tall righty was effective in Spring Training, spinning four innings of one-run ball while picking up two saves and four punchouts across four appearances.
Baker became the seventh former Osprey to make the MLB when he was called up by the Blue Jays last fall. He was dominant at the Triple A level in the Blue Jays organization, going 5-2 with a 2.25 ERA, 71 strikeouts and 56 innings worked.
The Fort Walton Beach, Fla., native was claimed off waivers by the Orioles in November of 2021.Â
With UNF, Baker went 14-10 with a 3.67 ERA, working primarily as a starting pitcher.Â
The Orioles open the year on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays.
