Aidan Sweatt Reaches 100-Career Hits in the Loss

LYNCHBURG, Va. - North Florida got ahead early, Liberty responded to take the lead in the third inning and North Florida nearly reclaimed it in the ninth, but the Flames (25-12, 11-6 ASUN) stranded a pair of Ospreys as UNF was clipped, 5-4, Saturday, April 23.

Despite the loss, sophomore Aidan Sweatt tallied his 100th and 101st-career hit as an Osprey, doing so in 84 games and 83 starts. For his career he is hitting .303, including a .327 batting average this season.

Lefty Peter Holden ran into some trouble early but settled down to put up six innings on 91 pitches of work. Holden has reached at least five innings of work in each of his last four outings.

Behind the Line Score

North Florida (16-24, 6-11 ASUN) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a two-RBI single from Aidan Sweatt, scoring Isaiah Byars and Brock Edge after they reached on consecutive singles to open the frame.
Liberty escaped by getting a bases-loaded punchout on a 3-2 count with two away in the first.
The Flames cut the deficit in half thanks to a Brady Gulakowski RBI single in the second. Peter Holden wiggled out of some trouble, getting a fly out and a groundout to end the frame.
Liberty jumped ahead, 5-2, with a four-run third inning. Aaron Anderson's leadoff walk opened the frame as four-straight singles ensued. A fifth single made it 5-2.
UNF got the first two batters on base in the sixth, but a popped up bunt turned into a double play. Tyler Gerteisen beat the shift to send an RBI chopper through the left side, scoring Dallen Leach.
Pitchers on both sides settled in as the score remained 5-3 until Gerteisen delivered a two-out RBI double in the eighth off Liberty lefty Mason Fluharty.
UNF got two runners on in the ninth, but the Ospreys could not get the equalizer.

Sweatt reached 100-career hits, doing so in just 83 games.
Jason Gonzalez put up two innings of scoreless relief.
The game featured only two extra-base hits, both of which were doubles. This was after a night that featured six home runs Friday.
Gerteisen's three hits was a season high. His two RBI was also a season high.
North Florida has posted 18 double-digit hit games.
