Osprey Set to Host Four Outdoor Meets
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida track and field reveals its 2023 indoor and outdoor schedules on Wednesday afternoon, highlighted by hosting four outdoor meets this season at Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium. The Ospreys are set to host the River City Relays and the East Coast Relays, as well as the ASUN Outdoor Championships and the NCAA East Preliminaries.
North Florida will kick off the 2023 track and field season on Friday, Jan. 13, at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational hosted by Florida. UF will be hosting three of the five regular season events that the Ospreys will be participating in. Afterwards, UNF returns to Gainesville to compete in the two-day RADD Sports College Invitational starting Thursday, Jan. 19. North Florida will then travel north to Winston-Salem, N.C., to make strides at the JDL Fast Track Facility.
UNF returns to Florida to compete in another invitational before making its way to Lynchburg, Va., for the ASUN Indoor Championships from Feb. 24-25. This will be their first time competing against Austin Peay and Queens in a conference meet.
"We look forward to racing at the new facility in Gainesville," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "It will be nice to have a great meet so close to Jacksonville. Camel City is always a great meet, and we race so many out-of-region athletes, so it is highly competitive. It will be our last indoor ASUN meet at Liberty. We do love racing there, so that will be a big finale for the indoor season."
Early Season & Road Trips
UNF will have the home course advantage starting on Thursday, Mar. 16, at the River City Relays. The Ospreys will have roughly a week in between meets and will continue in a four-day series at the Raleigh Relays.
Soon after, runners will compete in both the Florida Relays and the Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic before heading to the two-day Tom Jones Memorial meet. The Ospreys will then take on the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga., before playing host once again in the East Coast Relays to close out the regular season.
"The home meets hosted with Adkins Timing will be business as usual," said Pigg. "Our opener in early March will be a week earlier than usual and it should be good with the weather conditions here. Raleigh Relays will be a good meet for our distance runners to get some shots at regional qualifying times. As usual, the meet at the University of Florida will be awesome, as they are first class in every way. Georgia Tech has become a team favorite with another top-notch meet with great competition and a fun trip to Atlanta before we settle into the string of home meets, which concludes here with the NCAA East Regional once again."
East Coast Relays & Postseason Meets
The Ospreys host its annual home meet, as well as their second regular-season outdoor meet of the season, with the East Coast Relays being set from Apr. 28-29 at Visit Jax Track. For more information about the East Coast Relays and how to enter the meet, visit the "Home Meets" link on the website for both the men's and women's track and field home pages.
"Our goal of this schedule is to create a great experience for our team, running faster and jumping higher than ever before," said Pigg. "The plan is that all of these meets will lead to high ASUN finishes and as many qualifiers for the NCAA East Prelims as possible."
The Ospreys will start their postseason strides for outdoor hosting the ASUN Outdoor Championships at Hodges Stadium for a 14th consecutive season from May 12-14. A few weeks later, the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds will come to town for the first time since 2020 from May 25-28 at the Visit Jax Track. The NCAA Championships will close out the outdoor season in Austin, Tex., from June 7-10.
