ATLANTA - The North Florida women's tennis team upset No. 25 Ole Miss, 4-3, Friday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Regionals. With the win, the Ospreys advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history and as the first women's tennis program from the ASUN Conference.

The Ospreys got off to a rocky start and fell to the Rebels in doubles. Summer Yardley and Annabelle Davis dropped court three, 6-1, to Tereza Janatova and Kelsey Mize.

Sabina Machalova and Tiphanie Fiquet of Ole Miss dominated court two, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point against Catherine Gulihur and Valentina Mariotto.

Lucia Montano and Constanza Gorches went unfinished, 3-3, against nationally ranked No. 35 Anna Vrbenska and Alexa Bortles.

In singles, Mariotto tied the score, 1-1, winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, on court six against Lillian Gabrielsen. Ole Miss took a 3-1 lead after claiming slots four and two.

Yardley fell 6-3, 6-4, to Vrbenska on court four. Gulihur was edged in the two slot 6-4, 7-5, by Fiquet.

Montano, Gorches and Davis each forced their opponent to a third set, dropping the first and coming back in the second.

In the one slot, Montano was down 3-6 in the first set and came back 6-2 in the second set. The redshirt senior upset No. 29 Sabina Machalova, claiming the third set 6-3.

Gorches followed suit and was down 4-6 in the first set on court three and rallied 6-1 in the second set. The Mexico City, Mexico native upset No. 116 Tereza Janatova.

ASUN Freshman of the Year Davis clinched the match for North Florida in the five slot. She edged Reka Zadori 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the win.

The Ospreys will play the winner of No. 11 Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern Saturday May 8 at 2 p.m.
