Ospreys Defeat FGCU in Semifinal, Stetson in the Championship Match
DeLAND, Fla. - Needing to win four matches in a row to win the title after a loss on day one of the tournament, UNF Beach Volleyball scaled that mountain with grit to earn the program's first ASUN Championship since 2016.
North Florida won a dramatic 3-2 match against FGCU in the semifinals before defeating #16 nationally ranked Stetson, the top overall seed, in the finals.
Fittingly, it was UNF's first win against Stetson since defeating the Hatters 3-2 in the 2016 ASUN Championship Final.
Dana Roskic and Antonia Harrison's efforts were heroic Sunday. The duo won the deciding match in both the semifinal and final.
The Ospreys tie a program record with 24 wins, matching their mark from the 2021 season.
Match 1: UNF 3, FGCU 2
UNF's fourth and fifth pairs continued to produce, providing key wins for a 2-0 lead. Lauren Galinis and Carleigh Semeniuk were the first to finish, while Carolyn Cain and Chantel McMillan won in straight sets just behind the fours.
FGCU got two points back, winning pairs two and three to force a dramatic finish at the top slot.
Dana Roskic and Antonia Harrison were locked in a battle from the beginning with Giovanna Borgiotti and Kirstine Garder. Roskic and Harrison got the edge late in the first set, winning 21-19, before FGCU's top pair did so in the second frame.
The duo got off to a 4-1 lead in the opening frame before racing away with the clinching set.

Stetson came back with strength, taking the first set at the top three courts. The Hatters won in two frames at the second and third slot, leaving everything to the top flight.
Roskic and Harrison dropped the first set against one of the nation's toughest top duo. They didn't relent though, using finesse and Harrison's dominant play at the net to force a third frame.Â

Wright's Words
"I cannot tell you how proud I am right now. It started out with Friday when we were stunned by Florida Gulf Coast. They're an outstanding squad and they came out with a fire. That humbled us to go back to the drawing boards and take a long path. The old adage is true that you get better with play, and that proved itself today. We were ready to play and were motivated." -- Director of Volleyball Kristen Wright
