Ospreys Set to Host Two Outdoor Meets
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida track and field announces its indoor and outdoor schedules for the 2022 season featuring two home meets during their outdoor slate. The Ospreys are set to host the UNF Invitational from Apr. 29-30, as well as the ASUN Outdoor Championships from May 12-14.
UNF opens their indoor season when they travel up to Columba, S.C., to compete in the Carolina Challenge from Jan. 21-22. They will take a couple of weeks off before heading back up to run in the Eighth Annual Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational in Lynchburg, Va., on Feb. 11-12. The Ospreys will have one more weekend of prep before heading back up to Lynchburg for the ASUN Indoor Championships from Feb. 25-26.
"Our indoor schedule is perfect for the needs of our teams," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "We will get a couple of good weeks of practice and then head to the University of South Carolina. Then we have a week off and go to Liberty. Both of these meets are set to have very good distance races and, of course, they are held on premier tracks put on in a first-class manner. We close indoor back at Liberty for the ASUN Indoor Championships. With the new teams in the ASUN, it will be the most powerful ASUN meet I have been a part of in the past ten years."
Road Trips
North Florida track and field will have just under a month of rest before starting their outdoor season at the Yellow Jacket Invitational from Mar. 18-19 in Atlanta, Ga. They will continue the following weekend with select distance runners heading to NC State for the Raleigh Relays, while the rest will head down for the Knights Invite in Orlando, Fla.
Soon afterward, UNF will compete in the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla., from Mar. 31-Apr. 2, before heading back down there again just two weeks later for the Tom Jones Memorial meet from Apr. 15-16.
"Outdoor we are opening up at Georgia Tech. Prior to COVID-19, we went to GT a couple of times and the team loved the trip. It is a good meet and an opportunity everyone looks forward to attending," said Pigg. "The following week, we plan to take distance runners to Raleigh Relays for an opportunity to reach some regional marks, and others will attend UCF, which is also a very nice early season meet. Florida Relays is another highlight, as we always enjoy the great competition and the trip to Gainesville. A couple of weeks later, we head back to Gainesville for the Tom Jones meet, which once again is a first-class meet with great competition."

"We will close out the regular season with the North Florida Invitational, which has become a very good meet here at Hodges Stadium," said Pigg. "With our team fresh off of finals, it is a good time to stay close to home and avoid travel. The weekend's meet should propel us into the ASUN Championships ready to roll two weeks later here at home."
