THOUGHTS FROM COACH JEFF PIGG
"Having three guys qualify for the first round of the NCAA Championship is nice for our program. It's especially nice since we are hosting the event. Each of these three young men are talented and work hard to make the most of their abilities. I'm proud of them and look forward to seeing them compete. Noah has had a great year and is still feeling good, so it will be exciting for him. His goal was to qualify for this meet and it will be special for him to compete at home. Timothy has had an outstanding freshman year. He has a nice chance on Thursday to surprise some people and make it to the second round on Friday. He has focused on the 800m late in the year and is looking great as we head into Thursday's first round. Jaasiel has also had a great freshman year. We knew he would be good and he has delivered. He and Coach Krupa have focused on this meet and on late season successes. I know he is really excited to get the competition underway.Â
"Hosting the meet is quite a task but we are up to the challenge. Led by (Senior Associate AD) Ervin Lewis, we all work hard to get things done. We all take pride in hosting the meet and hope to make it a great experience for all of the competitors. This meet is a lot of work but it brings us all closer together as we work to put on a great meet and provide a first class meet for everyone."
"This meet brings together so many great athletes. The format gives everyone a chance to compete head-to-head for their spot at the finals in Austin, Texas in two weeks. It doesn't matter what you've done in the past, you just have to place in the Top 12 here in Jacksonville to advance. So for our guys, they have a chance with no pressure to lineup and see how they stack up with best in the East. Since they are young, it will be a great experience for each of them as they move forward in their careers."
