KENNESAW, Ga. -Â North Florida women's tennis bounced back from a slow start in doubles to take down Kennesaw State, 5-2 on Thursday afternoon.
UNF is now on a 10-match win streak and sits a 13-6 overall and 4-0 in the ASUN.
Both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles went in favor of the Owls in two tight, 7-6, finishes. Ana Paula Melilo and Valentina Mariotto made quick work of Kennesaw State in the No. 3 spot to stretch their win streak to seven.Â
North Florida responded quickly in singles with Rafaela Gomez grabbing a 6-0, 6-4 victory in the No. 1 position. Lucia Montano followed suit in No. 2 followed by Melilo in No. 3. Melilo has now won nine straight matches and is 4-0 in ASUN action. Freshman Sean Lodzki dropped just three sets to her No. 6 opponent to clinch the match for the Ospreys. Playing to completion, Constanza Gorches extended her win streak to eight with a victory in the No. 5 spot.
Cobra's Comments
"We played very passive doubles at 1 and 2 and that led us to the loss. We bounced back in singles and played discplined for the most part. We will take the win, but we have to get better at the start of doubles to get our momentum going. I am proud of Sean for the way she carried herself in singles and coming out on top." -- Head coach Mariana Cobra
