Goyins, Makela Win Flight B Doubles at Bedford Cup

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's tennis made its mark in the Bedford Cup with stellar singles win and a doubles Flight B victory from Gabby Goyins and Jasmin Makela from Oct. 2-4 at UNF Tennis Complex.
The Ospreys started strong on the first day for doubles on Thursday with a 2-0 showing, including a ranked win in Flight A for Laurie Barendse and Anslee Long. The top doubles pairing for UNF went on to the semifinals of their flight after another win over UCF's doubles pair on Saturday.
Barendse continued to bring the same energy in singles play of the top flight with a pair of wins to reach to finals. She took down UCF's Olivia Bergler in straight sets before mounting a big comeback against Florida's Valery Gynina in a three-set thriller.
Another Osprey with a pair of singles victories was Goyins, who took down USF's Margherita Marcon and Stetson's Anastasija Adeikyte each in straight sets. Goyins was also paired up with Makela to go 3-0 in their round-robin doubles flight.
North Florida will make its next trip down to the ITA Southeast Regional Championship from Oct. 16-19 set at the UCF Collegiate Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla.
