KICKOFF - North Florida closes out its regular season ledger with a pair of in-state ASUN matches beginning Thursday night at Stetson and wrapping up Sunday evening against crosstown rival Jacksonville.
Â
OSPREY FACTS
1. LOOKING BACK - The Ospreys dropped their second consecutive 1-0 decision in the closing minutes, as ASUN co-leader FGCUÂ netted the decider midway through the second overtime session | During the second half of regulation and the first overtime period, UNF narrowly missed scoring the game winner
2. KEEPING THINGS CLOSE - Through six matches in ASUN play, the final score in five of North Florida's matches has been 1-0 with a 1-1 tie vs NJIT the lone exception | UNF was on the plus sign of the first three 1-0 matches but found itself on the opposite side in back-to-back matches with Lipscomb and FGCU | For the season, the Ospreys have been a part of nine matches decided by a single goal
3. MILESTONE NOTES - Head coach Eric Faulconer owns 249 career wins in his collegiate coaching career, with an all-time mark of 249-102-31 | Thais Reiss has 21 goals in her career including 11 game winners... Her 9 goals this season is the third most in DI history and just one shy of DI all-time record... She has 9 game winners equaling the DI record and also ranks third in the DI era for shot attempts | Ospreys are one win shy of reaching double digits for only the second time in the DI era (11 in 2006)
4. TOURNEY TALK - With 10 points in the ASUN standings, North Florida is currently fifth in the league with the top six squads after this weekend advancing to the conference tournament | The Ospreys narrowly missed qualifying for the tournament last season which snapped a four-year streak of making the postseason field | UNF is two points behind fourth place Kennesaw State, a squad they defeated earlier this year, while holding a three-point advantage on sixth-place NJIT, with whom they tied
5. SCOUTING REPORTÂ
- Stetson enters Thursday's tilt with a 2-11-2 overall mark and a 0-5-1 record in ASUN play | The Hatters are winless, with two ties, over their last 10 matches | Their lone home victory was a 3-2 decision against Rollins on Aug. 25 | Maggie Struble has scored six of the squad's 14 goals this season and is one of just four Hatters to find the back of the net | SU's goalkeepers own a 2.33 GAA | Head coach Chris Bergmann is in his first season at Stetson | In the series with the Hatters, UNF's last win came in 2015 (2-1) and the last victory in DeLand was in 2007 (1-0)Â
- Jacksonville is 0-11-3 (0-5-1 ASUN) coming into the final weekend and will visit NJIT on Thursday before squaring off with the Ospreys in the finale | The Dolphins have lost three straight following a scoreless double overtime draw with Stetson on Oct. 3 | Olivia Abdallah owns all four of JU's goals this season with assists from four different players | Jacksonville has been held scoreless in 10 matches this year and our surrendering 1.96 GAA | Head coach Laura Busby is 1-25-4 in her second season with the Dolphins | In the series, UNF's current two match win streak closed out a stretch of 10 matches without a victory (nine losses and a tie)
FAULCONER TALES
"We have played well our last two games versus the top two teams in the ASUN standings. Unfortunately, we were on the wrong side of both those matches and we know we need points this week to continue our season beyond this Sunday. Â Both Stetson and Jacksonville both need results as well to keep alive post season aspirations. We fully expect to see the best versions of both teams and we know we will need to play well to close out the regular season on a strong note. Stetson is coming off a solid performance against Lipscomb and that game was in the balance until late in the second half. Jacksonville has dealt with a rash of injuries, but they play extremely hard and are quite good defensively. Throw in the fact that is a rivalry game and I am certain we will have our hands full at home Sunday night. Â We will be honoring our seniors before the JU game. This group has made a big impact on this program and we would like nothing more than to see them leave Hodges victorious." -- Head coach Eric Faulconer
