JACKSONVILLE -- Carl Evans was named the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development at the University of North Florida, as announced by Athletic Director Lee Moon.
Evans will manage and oversee all UNF athletic development efforts along with leading the Osprey Club and the department's Shareholders for Success Program. He will be a member of the Athletic Department's senior and external operations staffs.
"We are very excited to have Carl joining the North Florida athletic department and leading our development efforts," said Moon. "He brings a wealth of experience and will be a tremendous addition to not only athletic development but also for the Osprey Club, AD Cabinet and Shareholders for Success Program. He has demonstrated success in creating, managing and growing a variety of giving and fundraising campaigns. Carl brings a new energy and vision to the important area of development."
Evans comes to UNF after serving in a critical leadership role for the fundraising efforts at East Carolina as the associate athletics director for development over the past four years. In that position, he was responsible for the Pirate Club Annual Fund and led a team of 12 professionals that raised more than $71,000,000 since 2014. He and his team saw an increase of 28% in annual fund giving and helped secure more than 16,000 donors (10,000 students) annually for ECU Athletics.
Â
"I am extremely honored and humbled to be joining such a fantastic team here at UNF," Evans said about his new position. "Lee (Moon) and his staff have accomplished so much and I am excited to be a part of the program's future. There is a goldmine of opportunity here and I look forward to working with all of the Osprey Club members and other stakeholders as we seek to provide transformational opportunities for our student athletes."
Prior to his time at ECU, Evans served a stint at Towson, where he served as senior associate athletics director for development. During his tenure with the Tigers, he implemented the first policy and procedures manual for the athletic development program, while also creating a strategic plan that included the restructure and rebranding of the annual fund. His efforts led to a 56 percent overall increase in donations, while unrestricted annual fund donations increased 89 percent.
Â
In November 2006, Evans began working at Memphis as assistant director of the Tiger Scholarship Fund, a position he held for 10 months before being promoted to director status. Two years later, in September 2009, he was further elevated to assistant athletics director for development and held that title for four years. In that role, Evans spearheaded a 46 percent increase in funds, totaling $15.1 million in 2011-12.
Â
Evans career began with three years of service at UNLV (2003-06), where he worked his way up from a development intern to a donor liaison for ticketing.
Â
A native of Ramah, N.M., Evans is also a former Division I student-athlete. While playing football at Weber State, he was an Academic Achievement Award and Honor Award winner. He holds a bachelor's degree from Weber State University and a Master's of Science in Physical Education with an emphasis in Athletics Administration from UNLV.
He currently holds memberships with National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD).
Â
Evans and his wife, Starla, are the parents of three daughters: Skye, Delanie, and Ryla.
