Ospreys Advance to Title Matches in Top Flights of Singles, Doubles

UNF Guaranteed a Singles - Flight A Win Sunday
MACON, Ga. - After day two at Mercer's Gridiron Classic UNF positioned itself to vie for championship matches in the top flights of singles and doubles play tomorrow. The Ospreys have accumulated 32 wins over the last two day, led by Jorge Nunez's seven and six for seniors Till Von Winning and Sahil Deshmukh.
The quarterfinals of the Singles - Flight A was a busy one for North Florida as it had four competing at the 8:30 a.m. time slot. Dominik Barton got the best of Coastal Carolina's Luiz Faria, 6-1, 6-3, and Nunez topped Georgia State's Kevin Huynh with a pair of 6-3 wins.
Von Winning got the best of classmate Deshmukh to advance to the semifinals with a straight-sets win.
Barton followed up with a 6-3, 6-2 rout of Georgia State's Andrei Duarte. Nunez and Von Winning were pitted against one another in the semifinals with the senior taking a hard-fought match in three sets.
"Always a tough day when you have your players competing against each other in the quarterfinals and semifinals," head coach Matt Lucas said. "On the bright side though, that means our guys have advanced in the draw, which is a great thing."
Federico Nani and Joe Ellis garnered wins in the consolation bracket of the second flight of singles, advancing to the semis. Nani took the opening set, but Florida Southern's Brandon Pham took the final two, and the match. Ellis finds himself in the title match with a straight-set victory in the semis.
Nunez and Deshmukh won 7-6 (3) to set up a semifinals bout against Kennesaw State's Drew Lahey and Bryan Triana. UNF downed the their ASUN foe, 6-1, to earn a finals appearance in the top flight of doubles.

"It will be a battle tomorrow with Till and Dominik, but I'm excited an Osprey will be the champion of the top flight. I'm also pumped up for the doubles final, as well as Joe Ellis being able to battle back for the backdraw championship. It's a great feeling when we are competing for titles, and I'm looking forward to the battle tomorrow."
