ROCK HILL, S.C. - Junior Krista Colubiale scored just five minutes into the game as North Florida women's soccer went on to shutout Winthrop, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field. The Ospreys move to 3-1 on the year for their best Division I start to a season.
GOALS
UNF: 5' - Krista Colubiale (Katy Mixon)
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Â North Florida scored the fifth-minute goal after coming out strong offensively.
- The Ospreys earned three straight corner kicks and on the third attempt, the ball bounced out to Katy Mixon who fired ball from 25 yards out towards the middle of the box.
- After a deflection back inside the box, the ball found the foot of Krista Colubiale who deflected the ball into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
- UNF kept the Eagles at bay allowing just four shots in the first half, but holding the hosts to just one shot on goal for the game with keeper Rhiannon Conelley making her lone save in the 21st minute.
CONFER'S CORNER
"Sunday games on the road are tough and we knew Winthrop would be fresh because they didn't play on Friday. Our girls really worked hard on both sides of the ball. Getting the early goal was nice and Krista did a great job finishing it. We are still growing as a team as well as learning and improving in each game."
QUICK HITS
- After North Florida fired off 12 shots in the first half, the Eagles limited the Ospreys to only four in the second half.Â
- Freshman Thais Reiss recorded a team-high five shots, while Colubiale and Andrea Sanchez each recorded two shots on target.
- UNF held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
UP NEXT
North Florida now returns to Jacksonville to host FIU and LIU Brooklyn over the Labor Day weekend. The Golden Panthers come to town for a 5 p.m. match on Friday before taking on the Blackbirds on Sunday at 12 p.m.
