JACKSONVILLE -- Former North Florida basketball standout Chris Davenport became the third Osprey this summer to sign his first professional playing contract as he inked a deal with NPC Rieti.
NPC Rieti plays in the Western Division of Italy's Serie-A2.
A four-year letterwinner for UNF, Davenport finished his collegiate career ranked among the program's Top 10 leaders in nearly every statistical category. Davenport collected 1,353 career points (6th all-time), while ranking second all-time in rebounds with 825, fifth in assists (335) and second in blocked shots with 335. He started in 109 of 128 career games played and reached double digit points in 66 contests including 10 games with 20 or more points.
Davenport is the only player in program history to record over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists and 100 blocks. During his senior season, Davenport ranked second on the squad at 10.9 points per game and was the leading rebounder at 6.6 rpg. He was a key contributor during the Osprey's back-to-back ASUN Championship runs in 2014-15 and 2015-16.
"Chris has overcome many challenges and achieved many goals that he set out for himself," said head coach Matthew Driscoll. "One of his primary goals of becoming a professional basketball player comes to fruition for him with this contract signing. Chris developed through his career. Finishing with Top 10 status in every major category in program history automatically makes his professional market value skyrocket. The combination of his versatility along with his competitive nature and high IQ for the game allows this start to his professional journey to be a stepping stone in growing his brand internationally. We are excited for Chris and look forward to keeping up with his continued growth as a player and person."
