EUGENE, Ore. -- North Florida standout distance runner Eden Meyer clocked a 33:54 in the finals of the 10,000m on Thursday night at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship. Meyer finished 15th en route to garnering 2nd team All-American honors at historic Hayward Field.
A junior from Jacksonville, Meyer capped of an outstanding junior campaign by becoming the first UNF Track All-American in the program's Division I era. The ASUN Cross Country Runner of the Year and the Most Outstanding Track Performer at ASUN Indoor Championships, she was just the fourth Osprey to qualify for the NCAA Championship meet.
The UNF outdoor record holder in the event at 33:43, Meyer posted the second fastest time of her career in the national championship meet. For the first third of the race, Meyer ran among the leaders in the field including running in second for several laps around the track. She closed with a race best 1:15 mark over the last lap to earn her All-American honor.
Not only is Meyer the first UNF Division I Track All-American, she also becomes the first track athlete since UNF Hall of Famer Romy Krueger in 2004 (NCAA D2 - 1500m) to collect All-American recognition.

SAY WHAT...
"By finishing in the Top 16, Eden was named a 2nd team All-American and that is an outstanding accomplishment. She handled her first NCAA Championship like a veteran. That was the first track championship aired live on ESPN and the field was filled with All-Americans and some Olympians, but none of that intimidated Eden. She ran a very courageous race. She maintained a very strong pace through the half way point and then began to tire a bit. She slipped back to 20th place and then got her second wind and began to fight her way back into the pack. The last two miles are very grueling and that is where she showed her competitive spirit and continued to race very hard. This has been a great experience for her. She had fun and competed well. From all the texts and tweets, it appears that Osprey Nation is very proud of her and so are we." -- Head coach Jeff Pigg
