Baseball Hosts Northeastern for 4-Game Weekend Series

Harmon Stadium will be the site of a four-game baseball series between UNF and Northeastern on Feb. 24-26

JACKSONVILLE -- The North Florida baseball team hosts Northeastern this weekend for a 4-game set at Harmon Stadium beginning Friday at 4 p.m. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday (1/4:30 p.m.) followed by a single game finale on Sunday.

NOTEWORTHY
- Ospreys open the season with 26 of first 32 games at home including six consecutive weekends of home series
- UNF's Frank German (So, RHP) was named the ASUN Pitcher of the Week on Monday after pitching 6.2 hitless innings including a career best 10 strikeouts against Radford on Sunday
- Austin Drury also had a strong showing on the mound for UNF, posted 6.0 scoreless innings of work highlighted by 9 strikeouts as part of a combined shutout to open the year
- At the plate, Blake Voyles and Joe Boyle both batted .455 on the opening weekend... Voyles led the team with 5 RBI while Boyle tallied a pair of homers and scored 5 times... Chris Thibideau and Patrick Ervin joined Voyles and Boyle with 5 hits each for the three game set 
- North Florida earned a series victory over Radford in the opening weekend of play posting a 9-0 shutout on Friday and a 9-2 Sunday victory... Highlanders edged the Ospreys 8-7 on Saturday
- In their first midweek and road contest of the season, North Florida dropped a 3-2 decision at in-state foe UCF on Tuesday night

- Northeastern was scheduled to face the Boston Red Sox on Thursday in an exhibition game in Ft. Myers, Fla.

SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN

NU was put to the test early as the Huskies began their 2017 campaign with a challenging, three-game road series at Southern Mississippi. Despite being swept by the Golden Eagles, Northeastern outhit Southern Miss during two of the three games, knocking 11 on Opening Day. Nick Fanneron belted two home runs during four at-bats and led the Huskies with nine total bases and four RBIs, while rookie infielder Scott Holzwasser went three-for-three in stolen base chances in addition to scoring three runs on three hits. Brian Christian struck out seven Golden Eagles during his Feb. 19 relief appearance and the third-longest outing (3.0 IP) behind Opening Day starter Mike Fitzgerald (5.0 IP) and Sunday starter Kyle Murphy (3.2 IP).

North Florida hits the road for a midweek tilt at Savannah State on Tuesday at 5 p.m. UNF then hosts Penn in their third consecutive weekend home series on Mar. 3-5.
