
Men’s Soccer Edged in Exhibition at CofC

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The North Florida men's soccer team kicked off its exhibition schedule with an away match at The College of Charleston. After 120 minutes of soccer, the Cougars held on to a 2-1 victory.

Game-Winner: CofC notched the game-winner with 18 minutes to play in regulation when Eli Dent blasted a low shot from inside the box.

Key Moment: CofC goalkeeper Treston Kederer denied Andrey Rosales' second half penalty kick attempt late in the game to keep the score at 2-1.

Freshman First: The Ospreys knotted the game at one on a successful penalty kick attempt by freshman Glenn Johnson.

By the Numbers: The Cougars owned a 19-15 advantage in shots but North Florida won the corner kick battle, 5-1. Five of the 19 CofC shots came in the 30-minute period after regulation.

Free Soccer: After 90 minutes of regulation, both teams took the field for 30 extra minutes in which neither team found the back of the net.
From Head Coach Derek Marinatos:
"We were able to get a look at a lot of guys and that's a huge benefit in these exhibition matches. We definitely had some opportunities but were unable to cash in. I'm not discouraged, throughout the course of the game we had a lot of bright spots but on the other hand we have a lot of work to do"

About CofC: The Cougars bowed out of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament in the first round last season, falling 3-2 to James Madison. Their 7-8-2 record in 2015 was the best since 2010 and a 4-3-1 mark in CAA play was the best since 2010. The Cougars and Ospreys tied 1-1 in a exhibition match at the beginning of last season at Hodges Stadium.

What's Next: The Ospreys will make their home debut on Saturday night in an exhibition match against Mercer at 7:00 p.m. It will be the final tune-up before the Mike Gibbs Tournament at Hodges Stadium that pits the Ospreys up against Winthrop on Friday, Aug. 26 and then UNC Greensboro on Sunday, Aug. 28
