JACKSONVILLE -- The North Florida men's track and field team had many strong performances Wednesday in the North Florida Twilight, highlighted by Desmond Robb's school-record breaking performance in the 400m at Hodges Stadium.
"We had a lot of good performances today," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "I thought the guys really came out and competed and were able to record some good times. It was exciting to see Bobby continue his solid jumping. Manny's run in the steeplechase was very impressive and I thought that our 800m guys ran well. Desmond is running well right now as well. We are extremely excited about hosting the ASun Championship next week."
Robb clocked a personal best 47.86 in eclipsing his own school record in the event. Manny Velasquez claimed the title in the 3,000m Steeplechase, running a time of 9:12 and trimming eight seconds off his persona best time in the event. A trio of Ospreys also notched PRs in the 800m with Taylor Sumagpang (1:51), Rayford James (1:51) and Cristian Acuna (1:53) all posting bests.
In the field, Bobby Harris continued his strong performances in the high jump, winning the event with a near facility record height of 2.18m (7-01.75).
North Florida now turns its attention to the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship meet, scheduled for May 13-14 at Hodges Stadium.
NOTE: A pair of Hodges Stadium men's records were matched: 110m Hurdles: Ronnie Ash (Adidas) - 13.41 / Pole Vault: Sean Young (Team Gheenoe) - 5.35m | 17-07.00
