Harris' School Record Paces Men's Track & Field Performances
4/16/2016 8:28:00 AM | Men's Track
JACKSONVILLE -- The North Florida men's track and field program saw record-setting performances happen on both sides of the country as Ospreys posted historic marks at the Mt. SAC Relays (Norwalk, Calif.) and Seminole Invitational (Tallahassee, Fla.) on Friday.
Sophomore standout Bobby Harris added 2-inches to his school record in the high jump after posting a personal best jump of 7-2.50 (2.20m) at the Seminole Invitational. The jump was the sixth best of the season in the nation and solidifies his qualification for the upcoming NCAA East Regional. At Mt. SAC, sophomore Tyler Stahl ran a personal best 3:49 in the 1,500m, while junior teammate Brad Hort also tallied a personal best 31:27 in the 10,000m, moving him to the top of the Atlantic Sun standings for the season.
Nick Morken followed up his record-setting 1,500m performance at Florida Relays with a solid 3:44 in the Elite Heat of the 1,500m and freshman Fynn Timm recorded a 9:06 in the Elite Steeplechase to wrap up UNF's performances at Mt. SAC.
"Our trip to the Mt. SAC Relays was very successful," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "Tyler Stahl and Brad Hort both ran lifetime bests and Nick Morken backed up his record-setting 3:42 in the 1,500m with a 3:44 in the Invitational section. Fynn Timm also looked good in a very physical steeplechase."
At the Seminole Invitational, freshman Logan Poteet continued his strong list of performances posting a personal best 14:47 in the 5,000m. Taylor Sumagpang led a group of five solid performances in the 800m, clocking a personal best 1:53.04. Rayford James (1:53.68) and Wesley Norton (1:55) also earned personal bests and were joined by Chris Robin and Constantine Stathis in the Top 20.
"Bobby Harris had an amazing high jump performance at FSU," added Pigg. "Not only does it rank sixth in the nation and get him to NCAA Regionals but it is also an Olympic Trials 'B' standard. The men's 800m squad also had a very solid race."
Competition concludes at Seminole Invitational on Saturday.
